#35 Blog here?

Writing is always a dangerous task. We put on page our private thoughts and desires and invest an awful lot of our ego in the work. So, when the work is inferior, the characters dead, the word flow awful, the whole thing confusing and tangled – we tend to feel bad. Embarrassed. Discouraged. Awful.

But remember, you are a beginner.

You didn’t just start of ice skating by doing flying spins.
You started off by learning how to fall.
You didn’t win the first chess game you played.
You were trounced mercilessly.

Writing is the same way :
You are here first to make mistakes,
To write bad sentences,
To create deadly dull characters,
And then learn how to avoid or fix them.
That’s why they call it, ‘school’ !

So allow yourself the freedom and luxury to write awful stuff in this blog. Take advantage of the safety of the classroom and in knowing that we’re all in this together and we’ve all been there. Write whatever you’re capable of and as much as you can. Get it out of your system. You’ll come out the other end a much better writer after all.

You’re here to experiment, to write stuff you’ll later look back as garbage.
(or not! me no take, looking back at the old stories after we graduate, as garbage!)
You are learning.
You will write the great stuff later.

Tweaked a bit from,
David Rush.

#34 Its Everybody’s Birthday!

Life in USMKK might not be the ideal university that you’ve all been hearing about. This is not a place to enjoy, that’s for sure. Most of our time will, was and were spent in studying.

Luckily, there’s always somebody’s birthday to celebrate! XD

Well, not for the partying during birthdays but for the big gathering we would have despite having notes still untouched.

We would have the organizer.

Cake and its transport.

Middle person to contact all his/her gang.

And finding the most suitable place in this small campus of ours’ or occasionally in our small Kubang Kerian/Kota Bahru.

As the clock struck twelve, we sing the birthday song.

Sometimes we would play a prank on the birthday boy/girl by making them “kiss” the cake~ (Of course, sometimes we don’t. XP)

Anyway, we would always end up laughing and staying up a bit late for the night talking and taking photos.

I believe all of us out there would have a time when we have just too many birthday celebrations to attend and started to feel weary.

Don’t feel bored about it, people!

As we grow older and it would seem just like another normal day out of the 365 days but we still celebrate it.

That’s because each and every one of us are worth celebrating for! =)

P/S: And never forget to thank your mom on that day. I believe all of us know why ;D

#32 Thirst Quencher

Sometimes when good things are there for a while, we tend to take for granted, thinking that it should be there at the first place, but when it is taken away from you, you'll only realize how hard it is without it and begin to appreciate it more. I am referring this to none other than Kak Na's fruit stall.

Of course at first when I first arrived at Nuraini hostel, I was really glad there's a stall selling hygienic fresh fruits and fruit juices (at least up to my standards), not just any normal fruit juices though, but rather unique juices as we have the option to mix a few fruits together to create the ultimate fruit blend. The best I've tasted so far is still Banana-Orange-Mango, recommended by Davina last year. Then after a while, you'd think that Kak Na's fruit stall will always be permanently there, when u needed something other than water to quench  your thirst..

But when Kak Na's license to open stall at Nuraini cafe was not renewed by the hostel administration, my life was certainly a bit harder, felt as though my day was not complete without fresh fruits and juices. Many Nurainians and Murnians felt the same way, a petition letter was promptly written and supported by hundreds of students. The operator of Nuraini cafe set up their own fruit stall, selling the exact same thing (can u see the conspiracy working?), but with minimal hygiene care, flies can be seen flying around the fruits and the stall, working top and floor were very dirty, yet expecting good business like Kak Na's stall. I would say that their new business venture was a total failure, not many students frequent the stall, obviously they are missing the business strategy and selling point of Kak Na's.

Is the United States Bankrupt?

I am not sure what happened next, the operator of Nuraini Cafe sudddenly close shop and Kak Na's fruit stall is back, upgraded to a bigger stall inside the cafe. News spread fast and soon her usual customers are back wanting for more, now with new juices like lemonade, oreo blend and the like.

So next time when u visit Kak Na's stall, don't forget to try her new drinks and most importantly, u must certainly try Banana-Orange-Mango mix ice blend. At just RM1.50 per cup, there's no drink healthier and cheaper, AWESOME!

#31 CEPAT open the durian

imagine this

.
.
.

here is a couple of first year doctor/dentist wannabees

who spent their lives living by the book

with NO clinical experience to their little names

with NO-NO punya yo-yo practical skill

they're trying to open a durian.

yes, you can start laughing
mission "open durian"
"Pre - process
"

yee liong : use anatomy dissecting skill to open the durian!
(like we have one of those in first year)

joe : i see him the durian seller do already, just use knife poke here and there, open liao loh.
(oh, so we use technique poke here and there la)

ying sze : Joe, you see and say nia. you do and see la. that guy you see sell durian how many years adi?
(memang that fella sell durian donno how many years liao. we are what; un-durian sellers ah?)

xl : follow the durian line and open LAaa!
(you open and see la, so smart)

joe: i got knife!
(great now, don't point it at me)

and so begins,
the excuciation

mission "open durian"
"the process
"

after 5 minutes ...

shu yen : very amuzing ah you all
(yes we'll take it as a compliment, thank you)

after 10 minutes ....

Davina : i need to record this!
(yes, so we all can laugh at ourselves again when we're old grannies looking back at our youth)

13 minutes ...

chuan sin : come, you need my strength to open.
(halo we're opening durian, not opening perasan-ness)

15 minutes ...

no dialogue.

all you hear is the surounding people laughing and
ooh and urrhs -gruntings . (like the sound of a fruitless bunch of people trying to push a wall "except this is durian"
the wall doesnt move, like duh)

one pangsa of durian pulls open slighty after 20 minutes
note: one pangsa only
and we cradle ourselves in our self amplified and supposingly self deserved joy.
(just one pangsa nia, wei you have 5 more to go?)

we then sit contently with our smellysweating and eat our long awaited durian!

and the moment we do,

kuan ming walks in from somewhere else : you all eat durian never wait for me hah.

the only sensible thing that we did at this moment was to throw one of the durians at him
(but we didn't la, after all we're nice usm people what)

.... cough cough

never wait hah

oy we did!

an

AGONIZING

20

minutes

all sarcasm elicited here are for humour purposes only
the author asks the readers not to take them too seriously
after all, we're nice usmkk people what

...cough cough

p.s the video is NOT with Davina :p do NOT watch it!

p.s.the durian is still an AWESOME eat

#30 A Pot of Gold

With Kelantan being so small, (or should we say dominated by rural areas) it’s quite hard to find good food. Plus having bad transportation, with us having to rent a car in order to go somewhere other than MyDin, ‘usmkkians’ are in hunger all the time.

And thus we’ve found the best creation that had happen to us…

(drum roll….)

The Rice Cooker!!! XD

I know everyone out there might give a =.=lll expression

But fear not ‘cause we’re here to prove the impossible

Besides having the usual function of cooking rice, we’ve fully utilized it to cooking our own desserts.

Barli. Green peas. Red peas. Green peas AND red peas. We’ve cooked them and the result was not bad at all! Suitable for weekend get-together-movie-marathon, especially in our mum’s kitchen, if you know who I mean. =P

On top of that, we’ve even used it for steamboats! With a full trolley of fish ball, chicken ball, mushrooms, noodles and couple of vege plus tofu, we tossed everything in with tomyam paste to make a satisfactory dinner with all first year tooth guardians.

Not forgetting our own cooking time, spaghetti was one of the favorites. It still tastes good though we use a rice cooker to cook everything.

All these might be a no-no to all chefs out there but we’ve proven it to be the best in USMKK. A thousand applause to this! =D
